Do You Need a $150 Automatic Fish Skinner? — The Kitchen Gadget Test Show

– Today, on Kitchen Gadgets, we’re testing the automatic fish skinner, Skinzit, versus a chef’s knife. – Um, sorry Cliff, no. – No? – No, I’m doing it.
Oh. – Sorry. – Oh. – Yeah, sorry, I wanna test the Skinzit. – Alright, ah, bye.
(laughs) – [Cliff] That’s all. – Sayonara.
Okay. Bye. Ladies and gentlemen,
my name is Esther Choi, and I am the new host of
the show, Kitchen Gadgets. And today, I am testing the
automatic fish skinner, Skinzit. (machine whirs) Versus the knife. The Skinzit is supposed to skin
your fish in half the time, that you can do with your knife. This lever is supposed to
grip your fish at the end, and then this part will help you skin it. Skinzit is also just like a weird name. I have some beautiful branzini here, which can be a little
bit difficult to skin just because it’s so thin. If you were to do this with a knife, depending on your skill level, would take about a minute or two. But we’re gonna go straight
into the competition. The knife versus the
Skinzit, three-on-three, and then we’re gonna
time it to see who does it faster and better. Going into this, I’m
actually a little bit nervous because I think I’m
gonna lose to the Skinzit and I know that usually the knife skills always win on this show, but I feel like I’m gonna be the first one to lose to a gadget, which is pretty sad. And go. Gosh. Alright, that was terrible. Two. Three. Time. That took 45 seconds,
and already I’m noticing that there is a little
bit of loss in the fish because you have to notch it to skin it. And there’s a little bit of meat on the skin. It’s not good, it’s not good. So let’s go to the Skinzit. And, go. (machine whirs) And time. Wow, that was really fast. Like it kind of alarmed me. So I feel like if you grab
the end and went like this, I would’ve saved a little bit of time, but then your also kind
of like sticking your hand which is kind of scary. And honestly, I just didn’t
want to put my hand there, and it was not very natural to me. So it took a little bit
longer to pull the skin out, but I’m sure if I get
used to it, and practice, it could be a lot faster and smoother. Let’s compare products. I mean, this is pretty spectacular, because you get no loss of fish. It’s really beautiful,
you can actually still see like some silver on the fish, which means that it’s
a really good skin job. The clean-up of this guy, quite simple, turn, pull, and then you
just like wash this part, you wipe down here. And then the knife, which you
know you have in your home. And it’s like a scale that you would have to continue to practice. So is it worth it for 150 dollars? I would say that if you eat
fish, three to four times a week, and you don’t want
the skin, this is it for you. If not, you don’t mind, skinning the fish, or maybe just cooking the
fish with the skin on it, then I would say 150 dollars
is a little bit high. If you own a restaurant, like I do. This is definitely worth it, and I think that I’m gonna
take this to my restaurant for my guys, because it’s
pretty freaking amazing. (machine whirs) It’s amazing, honestly. Look at this. That’s crazy. I’m feeling very emotional right now, just because I feel like I
lost to a kitchen gadget, but sometimes you know technology wins. And this thing, I’m still operating it, so I still own it, and
I’m not ashamed to say that the knife lost to the Skinzit. (machine whirs) Be careful. To see more Kitchen
Gadgets, that I’ve tested. Click here. – What are we testing today? Esther, here we go. – We’re testing the
rice cooker, of course. – You do cook rice in your restaurant. – I do cook rice in my restaurant, and

But a knife is a knife, and thus useful for far more than just skinning a fish; it's easier to clean up too. Pass on the Skinzit.

Also take into account that you have to clean. Cleaning a single knife is much faster then cleaning that machine. Also if you master the skill of skinning a fish with a knife you can do a much better job, much faster.

if you eat fish 3-4 times a week, you would have an excellent knife skills. Just saying

  34. Darryn Danger Jones says:

Comments are all about her knife skills, but what about her hygiene skills? Wiping down a small part of this tool that is clearly covered in fish bits won't clean it, not to mention that she touched the handle after touching fish. She owns a restaurant FFS!

  35. Jin Wong says:

Lol did you use a chef knife to filet your fish?

  36. sal says:

How is this fair? When you have a person that doesn’t even know how to skin a fish? Should have gotten a professional Chef to and timed it or someone that knows how to . A lot of people won’t skin a fish, if they don’t know how to

  37. Alfonse Catiis says:

    0:07 thats disrespecting

  38. Sonaro says:

Did she just say skin job? Ew

  39. David M says:

should of used a filet knife for the knife… you are using a chef's knife, can you say wrong knife.

    Bad choice of knife

  41. Bulik_ Proof says:

I like you Choi, but you failed me when you chose to use that type of knife…

  42. Punky Lesh says:

Sometimes…. I pull on it so hard… i rip the skin. Well my dad taught me how not to rip the skin by using Skinzit instead of my own hands. Will you show me? I'd be right happy to (whirring skin removing sounds)

  43. 289pinto says:

Thanks Esther. Not everyone is a chef and knows how to do things perfectly, except for everyone commenting in here, so I enjoyed your review and was impressed by that thing but ill never buy it because I don't skin enough fish. I'll do exactly what you did with my knife. 😉

  44. just a derpy dude in the internet says:

The Skinzit cud also consume your money in half the time!

  45. Rodrigo Azueta says:

Yeah, the problem is your knife.

  46. Lea Noof says:

did no one notice that the skinner timer went from 38 to 44 in 0.5 seconds lol at 2:19

  47. Noel Abellera says:

Lol. Totally the wrong knife for skinning a fish

  48. lh121212 says:

They should really do the show together. They're like less nice to watch individually. Also with like an expert and more thoroughly…

  49. Chris christie says:

it terrifies me that she owns a restaurant with those knife skills. Use a freaking filet knife and use proper technique.

  50. Jay Semaan says:

If only she knew how to skin a fish with a knife. They don’t need to replace the knife they need to replace the person cutting! 😂

  51. Araaz Arbab says:

Did she snorted curry, pulled her jeans to chest

  52. LamboKang says:

If u own a local business that needs to skin alot of fish then its a good buy. If not, its pretty useless.

  53. Hels Hels says:

Esther sucks at skinning fish with a knife. I feel like the average person who went in trying to skin a fish would at least do a quick search on how to and pick up basic techniques. She just stretched and tear the meat off the skin. So it is not comparable at all.

With that said the gadget actually did a great job skinning fish.

  54. OliverTwistedx says:

why are you using a chef knife to skin a fillet……

  55. Garrick Borrough says:

Reading the comments and then thinking. How illogical ARE people? My damned curiosity got the better of me.

    1:11 – She's a bit nervous.
Why? Because she literally said this herself, and I'm transcribing it because of the people who have "pro skills", yet you're so stupid you can't comprehend basic language. She doesn't even have an accent.

"because I think I'm going to lose to the Skinzit, and I know that usually the knife skills always win on this show, but I feel like I'm going to be the first one to lose to a gadget, which is pretty sad."

    "Alright, that was terrible."

"That took 45 seconds, and I'm already noticing that there is a little bit of loss in the fish because you have to notch it to skin it, and there is a little bit of meat on the skin."

By the way, a "real" pro can do anything with a single knife. You talk skills, no? IRONIC.

And she quite literally says… "I would say that if you eat fish, three to four times a week, and you don't want the skin, this is it for you." She continues to mention that if you don't mind the skin, etc, etc.

Note, you even get people who don't understand, people eat in all sorts of ways, sometimes people don't want fish skin, but no, she's a terrible person instead. Yup, that's the conclusion.

Also, are we getting to the point of sheer stupidity that we assume all restaurant owners, nay… ALL RESTAURANTS deal with FISH?

Also, I don't understand. GADGETS ARE ALWAYS MEANT FOR PEOPLE TO DO SOMETHING IN BULK, or are considered as an INVESTMENT over time. Same morons who probably have microwaves but somehow think nothing of that.

Also, we live in a world where there's always someone BETTER. This means someone can easily be more proficient when dealing with fish versus chicken.

Watch the god damn video before pulling this mythical crap out of your ass.

Also, change happens. SHOCK. Let's not assume there's some unfair situation or whatnot, because unlike you, there's a staff involved. It's not just a single person.

Isn't that right, to just "buy the right knife"? And spend "15 minutes" learning? Different types of fish, different methodology, different levels, different learning capabilities.

I love food because it's never "one" and "all", it's full of variety. Much like randomly watching shows on TV/YT/wherever. But, y'know, let's hate on a person.
Open-minded understanding of the concept of technology and how it's changed people? No, no, no!

  56. Ahsan Gameplays says:

    I miss him

  57. joseph Reyes says:

The way she rips that fish apart makes me think of a lion after it caught its prey. Damn. Poor fish.

  58. More Wolfie says:

Wrong knife use fish fillet knife I could beat it by two seconds

  59. tetleydidley says:

Disliked. Used the wrong knife, made zero effort to learn the technique and moaned she lost to a gadget. Also has it become fashionable to show conspicuous religious symbols while wearing the Vegeta's armour on a cooking show?

  60. GreyDevil says:

Who doesn't eat the skin on a fish? It's the best part

  61. Kenneth Donnelly says:

why is she using a Chief knife to filet fish, i thought she was a chef…….why is she not using a filet knife.

  62. Alex Biandis says:

    Esther Choi is hot

  63. DoNot Need says:

When was the last time that knife was sharpened? If a device scares you then why try using it? Maybe you should have read the directons first. Any idiot should know not to follow the meat with their fingers.

  64. Sh0t says:

    Hottest chef ever

  65. Pascal Calixte says:

From the screen cap I thought it was another Netflix psychological thriller trailer.

  66. test test says:

dude, 3-4 time s a week? maybe if you eat fish 3-4 times a day, even then it's still iffy

  67. A True Wisconsinite says:

Why don't they use a proper fillet knife?…

  68. Dylan Kelly says:

Who else thought about blade runner when she said, "That means that it's a really good skinjob"?

  69. Ihaveneverbeatenmymeat SS says:

    Use a filet knife.

  70. alfblack2 says:

  71. Daniel Alfred says:

Eat the skin! Is good for you!

  72. Ty Chapman says:

You using wrong type knife, use filet knife

  73. Taoxlrgion1982 says:

Das see has a snack bar for a restaurant??

  74. He Ka says:

It's so weird how they do simple things so badly… I mean obviously you are supposed to use a fillet knife for this! And why does she stop the skinning with the machine just a second too early so that she has to pull the very end of the skin off by force?! Why not just let the god damn machine do its job?

  75. ToxikDouche says:

    Or…idk….use a fillet knife….like wtf

  76. Ryan Moore says:

You are using the wrong type of knife!!!

  80. Homie what up Yo dawg says:

    I'd rather buy a $150 knife.

  81. Sebastiaan van Dijk says:

Hahah, she told us in different episodes she was a ''chef''. I call bluff, if anyone manages to butcher a fish that bad you don't even belong in a professional kitchen other than to wash the dishes.

  82. my name is my name says:

IT is a choi to use skin fish

  83. LetMeSeeThis99 says:

Fish with no skin?!?!? Someone call the cops!!!! Whyyyyy? It’s the best part.

  84. alfonso payra says:

  85. Sandy Degener says:

And it even has an IR connection so you can play video games while scaling fish! (Note: This model was just declared: "World's Largest Dual Purpose Joystick" by Guinness).

  86. SchrödingerEquation says:

For someone to make a debut as a new host..her choice of wardrobe wasn't exactly well thought out..🤢

  87. Richard Waldman says:

This is nonsense. Nobody uses a chefs knife to skin fish and if you did, you would not use the technique used here. Use a thin-bladed knife, angle it slightly down and pull the fillet over the knife while pressing the broad side of the knife down. Everyone with minimal experience would know this. The results would be equivalent and the time saved not having to clean the gadget would tip the scales to the already owned knife.

  88. Max A/C says:

Fish skin is good for you and tasty if you're not a child. Unless you are making sushi or sashimi at home no skinning is needed.

  89. bensonyaqzhan says:

Atleast use a proper skinning knife

  90. TheGinnnnnnger says:

Can we go back to the other guy plz?

  91. TheGinnnnnnger says:

  93. King Louie says:

Ever used a filet knife before? Amazing that the chef’s knife didn’t mangle more of the fish!

  94. Shyamsundar Rajan says:

Man spending 150 $ on just to skin a fish is criminal. My knife can do that and more.

  95. Killjoy26 says:

I mean if you used the correct knife it would have taken half the time. That thing ain’t worth $150 if you can’t even skin a decent size fish.

  96. Uncle Fjester says:

Here in Texas we can get 2 illegals all day for $150

  97. Suicidal Junkie says:

She seems very uneducated and her reasoning seems unreliable, being that she’s a “chef”.

  98. Melvin Collins says:

For the fish I eat and prepare, I keep the skin most times. It's a shame people waste food.

  99. Stephen Schoenleber says:

Opps. Wrong knife for skinning a fish. Most likely you'd get the skin off without loss of meat by using the correct knife. What you need is a long thin flexible blade.

  100. KingKutt 1315 says:

Her knife skills are poo who votes to get the guy back she pretty but her knife skills are 💩’y
