Power Pressure Cooker XL : Loose or Spinning Valve and Startup

for the power pressure cooker XL is
available mostly widely available at Costco and Sam’s Club in the US and
there’s been a lot of questions like people who first open it up whether or
not it set up to operate correctly particularly around this pressure valve whether it’s supposed to spin and be loose or not and, yes, it is supposed to spin and be loose. The way it works is if it’s going to contain the pressure it is around that area with
that dial set to there but if it’s going to release the pressure it goes up on a
little groove and you’ll feel it settle into that groove and it aligns
like that and when you first take out of the box and instructions it says to fill
it two-thirds full of water put a lid on it and you and put it on Canning for 10
minutes I’ve already done that and I’m going to I don’t have water in there I’m
going to make some pulled pork barbecue so I have some some other liquid in there. Here’s what you do. You put the lid on and spin it to where it
goes to the lock position. You spin the tab to where the seal is
set to the arrow. You would then plug it in. It will illuminate, and then what you
would do is you’re going to hit Can. Immediately 10 minutes is going to come
up. Now after a few seconds this 10 minutes is going to go away, there it goes, and
it’s going to have these kind of spinning lights. That’s normal. Now what
happens is it’s heating up inside right now. And as it heats up your water
that’s in there, again I don’t have water in there right now, but you would have
water in there, will eventually heat up and build steam which builds pressure
because this lid is on. It’ll take about 15 to 20 minutes you’ll see then about
that point some steam come out of this hole in the handle and that is a sign
that the water’s heating up and as that steam comes out, there’s going to be a pressure
valve that clicks shut that’s then going to no longer allow that steam to come
out and the pressure will build up inside. Once that pressure builds up
inside, the lid will lock so you cannot turn it that way, liket I’m doing right now. You would not be able to turn it at all and your spinning lights will go back to the 10 minutes. And it will start then counting down from the 10 minutes. After
the 10 minutes, you’re supposed to just release the pressure and you can either
just let it do it naturally by cooling down or you can release the pressure by
putting it on the pressure release which again is a little groove that you’ll
feel when it sets and aligns as such that’s how you do it it’s not very
cleaner in the manual hopefully this helps people out on confusion and enjoy
your power pressure cooker XL

just opened mines today and thought something was wrong since it was releasing steam from the hole on the handle and I turned it off cause was not sure if it was working properly! But this video really helped thanks for the details on startup!

Thanks for posting this! You saved me a trip to return it!

  3. Dax Presuto says:

Thank you for this video! You assuaged my concerns on that valve. I don't like "sloppy feeling" mechanisms, especially with a kitchen bomb (via pressure). I appreciate your time on this one!

  4. prd74's new channel says:

My Power XL worked fine… until I washed the inner plate and gasket under the lid. When I put it back together, steam was leaking everywhere and there was moisture showing in the LED display. I watched a video which showed the plate and gasket and "Duh!", the rubber gasket fits around the round aluminum plate and not underneath it. It works fine, now.

Hi, I have had my XL for over a year and it has worked like a charm. I attempted to make bone broth, but the steam never stopped leaking slowly from the release valve. I stopped it, vented it completely, cleaned and replaced the valve, but the same thing happened. How do I know that pressure was maintained, or since it did not stop leaking. It was a constant insipid hiss.

  25. Tara W says:

Thanx for this thought my pressure value was broke lol

  42. Hellfire O722 says:

I keep having the red pressure valve pop out when it is pressurizing.

  43. Matthew Smith says:

Thanks for this. I actually took back the first one I got in the mail due to the sloppy feeling of the pressure valve. The guy at bed, bath, and beyond looked at it and said it was broken too. If you shake the lid it even sounds like some plastic bouncing around inside. Got the new one in the mail today and the valve was the same so I figured I must be doing something wrong. Your video was very helpful.

  44. Toki says:

This helped me a lot, I thought it was broken or something lol Thank you!

  45. mystvandle says:

  48. Tomasz Romanowski says:

Hello I got this and it worked fine for 2 days. Then all of a sudden the I get this loud beeping noise which supposedly means the unit is not pressurised. Try as I might – I cant get it back to work. Any ideas? I've tried realigning the valve, plugging, unplugging, taking the gasket off and back on.

  49. Lori Marshall says:

    Very helpful…Thank you!!

  50. nfvy says:

Thank god for this video! Was about to return the unit cause I thought I got a defective one. I figured something as important as the pressure valve shouldn’t be that loose.

  51. importryderify says:

    Great video helped greatly

  52. Angel says:

Thank you so much for this video. I thought my valve was broken.

  53. elizabethtld says:

Thank you! This video was extremely helpful in answering questions I had as a first time user.

  54. D Hansel says:

    Update on the new models!
The older models had a button on top that said "cook time selector"
The New models that have the red pressure indicator on top of the lid says instead of "cook time selector" now says "Saute"
Which means you cannot use the big round button on front to change the cooking time. If you press it and put the lid on it will beep at you and flash "LID".
You have to select what you want to cook and immediately press the minute button to reach the cooking time.
I called customer service and got a person in the US that explained this. She said the "Saute" button on from is for searing the food and not jump to the cooking time.
My new pressure cooker doesn't automatically seal up for pressure cooking so I have to jiggle the lid to make it quit letting steam out the vent hole on the lid handle.

  55. Dean Geier says:

Thank you! I Just bought the 770 and as has been mentioned, the instructions don't seem to be very clear. I worked on setting mine up today and was getting concerned that things weren't working as expected as it took quite a while to pressurize. I got a good deal on it, but wouldn't be able to return it due to the store where I bought it closing. Looking forward to doing some ribs in it soon! Thanks!

  56. greendevil121 says:

    1 question and 1 concern.
Question : could you focus inside the handle I’m trying to figure how to put the valve it came out when I was trying to clean it.
2: if it’s a goldfish in the background I hope you give him a bigger tank 🙂 but great video though.

  59. ManicBeastBoise says:

I too was going to return it. When I unboxed it that little knob popped off and I wasn't sure if I had broken a piece off or what but I don't like that free spinning feeling either

  60. Beatle4 says:

I have the Power Pressure Cooker XL Pro and it has an entirely different set-up for locking the valve. It's just a slide switch. Slide one way and it locks the valve. Slide the other and it quick releases the steam and reduces the pressure. Have had for about a year and a half and I love it.

  61. Karen Ruedas says:

    Thank you!

  62. Sarita B. says:

Omgoodness thank you so much for your easy instructions👍

  63. holls says:

I appreciate the video. I love my pressure cooker. But that goldfish needs a minimum of 10 gallons of water. They grow from 8-10 in and live as many as 20 years. In a bowl or small container they live a short sad life while their internal organs outgrow their bodies until they die. That is if uncycled water or poor water quality don't kill them first.

  64. Alfred Savory says:

Thanks man, i was totally confused…YOU Rock~ Saved me a trip back to the store to…. 🙂

  68. Janet Blickle says:

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. The markings on the valve rubbed off and I could not remember where the valve was to be positioned to begin and release.

  69. Olivia Kohrman says:

Just like everyone has already said: thank you so much this was so helpful! A friend gave me one and I was worried I was doing something wrong and that the valve was broken. It worked flawlessly when I followed your directions however. I really appreciate the video.
